VIOLIN MASTERCLASS
– Fundamental violin technique
– Posture and relaxation
– Relationship between technique and interpretation
– Focus on contemporary repertoire
The violin course led by Maestro Valentino Corvino will focus on establishing a correct and healthy posture for the violinist, based on relaxation, along with an in-depth analysis of the technical fundamentals necessary to achieve full command of the instrument, entirely in service of musical interpretation.
Special attention will also be given to the exploration of contemporary violin techniques (management of different sound productions, harmonics, microtonality), which 20th-century repertoire has added to the technical and expressive possibilities of the instrument.
ORCHESTRAL CONDUCTING MASTERCLASS
– Fundamentals of conducting technique
– Score analysis in relation to conducting
– Interaction with the orchestra and rehearsal techniques
In the orchestral conducting course led by Maestro Valentino Corvino, participants will work on building solid technical foundations as well as exploring the artistic, technical, and psychological aspects of rehearsal and interaction with performers.
A distinctive feature of this course is its focus on score analysis in relation to conducting—namely, the effective planning of a conductor’s actions throughout a piece, in order to deepen the close relationship between gesture and interpretative thinking. A series of original exercises will guide students toward a deep understanding of conducting technique in a stimulating and engaging way.
A special focus will be dedicated to the most outstanding students of various instruments, who will learn the fundamentals of conducting and ensemble leadership in preparation for future solo careers.
Participants will have access to several sessions with the course orchestra.
ORCHESTRA MASTERCLASS
– Orchestra rehearsals
– One concert for string orchestra
– Final grand concert of the course
BIOGRAPHY
Valentino Corvino is an Italian conductor and composer whose work lies at the intersection of classical music, contemporary languages, theatre, spoken word, and electronics, with particular attention to the relationship between orchestra and today’s audience.
He has conducted some of Italy’s leading orchestras, including the Orchestra of the Teatro Comunale di Bologna, the Filarmonica del Teatro Regio di Torino, the Orchestra of the Teatro Massimo di Palermo, the Orchestra Toscanini of Parma, and the Orchestra Sinfonica Abruzzese, alternating standard repertoire with original productions.
His activity focuses on the creation and direction of original orchestral formats, in which the symphonic repertoire interacts with jazz, singer-songwriter traditions, electronic music, and dramaturgy, while maintaining a strong musical identity and a structure designed for festivals, special series, and unconventional concert programming.
In the field of orchestral crossover, he has conducted and arranged symphonic projects with artists from pop, jazz, and theatre, including The Swingle Singers, Morgan, Antonella Ruggiero, Ben Harper, Paolo Fresu, Francesco Renga, Moni Ovadia, and numerous actors and intellectuals from the Italian cultural scene. Among his most significant productions are symphonic concerts dedicated to Lucio Dalla, projects with electronic music groups, and performances integrating orchestra, spoken voice, and multimedia.
As a composer, he has written music for over thirty theatre, dance, and film productions, many characterized by a strong integration of music with extra-musical languages. His works include operas, musicals, and ballet-operas commissioned by theatres, foundations, and cultural institutions in Italy and abroad. Productions featuring his music have exceeded one thousand performances across Italy and Europe.
Originally trained as an instrumentalist, he is a violinist and violist with extensive experience in contemporary music and interdisciplinary performance. He maintains an active international concert career. He is the concertmaster and soloist of the FontanaMIX Ensemble and a member of the Arké String Quartet.
Alongside his artistic work, he is deeply involved in teaching and research. He is Professor of Music Informatics at the “G. Braga” Conservatory in Teramo, where he focuses on electronic music, multimedia, and applied composition. He has also held managerial and project-based roles within musical institutions, developing a strong understanding of cultural production and programming.
