BIOGRAPHY

Alessandro Fossi is Professor of Tuba at the “Arrigo Boito” Conservatory in Parma. Since 2010, he has served as Guest Principal Tuba with the Orchestra of the Teatro Comunale di Bologna.

He has performed with many of the most prestigious orchestras in Italy and Europe, holding the position of Principal Tuba with the Orchestra of the Teatro San Carlo in Naples and the Orchestra of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia. He has also collaborated with the Orchestra of the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, the Russian National Orchestra, the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra in St. Petersburg, the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, and the Orchestra Mozart.

He has received awards in major international competitions, including the Internationaler Instrumentalwettbewerb in Markneukirchen (2000), a member of the World Federation of International Music Competitions in Geneva, and the Lieksa International Tuba Competition (2001).

He has taught at the Musikhochschule in Trossingen, Germany.

He regularly performs as a soloist and clinician at international festivals and leading institutions, including the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, Manhattan School of Music, Stanford University, Northwestern University, Haute École de Musique de Genève, and the University of Cincinnati.

He has been a member of the International Tuba Euphonium Association (I.T.E.A.), serving as Editorial Advisor for the I.T.E.A. Journal, contributing articles and interviews.

His discography includes several recordings, among them The Roman Trilogy, recorded for EMI with the Orchestra of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia conducted by Antonio Pappano, and a live recording with the Gomalan Brass quintet, 1999/2009 Ten Years LIVE in Lodi.

In 2009, he released his first solo CD, Bel Canto. In 2017, he released Concerti Italiani for tuba and wind orchestra.

In 2012, he was awarded the Premio Vallesina under the High Patronage of the President of the Italian Republic in the Music category.
